Toby Carswell is a student at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, currently studying composition under the tutelage of renowned composer Errollyn Wallen. As well as composing and arranging, Toby has been playing the piano from the age of 4, and brass instruments since the age of 7, achieving grade 8 in euphonium and trombone as well as piano. Toby also passed grade 5 theory with distinction. He has played with Morely Jazz Orchestra, Swing Unlimited Big Band, Forest Fires Big Band, Hyde Brass Band, Wessex Youth Orchestra and recently completed a tour of France with the Bournemouth University Big Band. He is currently doing copying work for the award winning saxophonist Mark Lockheart as well as teaching trombone and piano in Bournemouth, when not studying for his degree in London. He is a qualified American football coach and Junior Sports Leader, showing good leadership ability, which he uses to aid his conducting, having studied under Peter Stark, who also teaches at the Royal College of Music.
