Arts Academy would like to congratulate Alexandra Kelly as she has been named Pupil of the Term for Summer 2010. Alexandra is learning to play the acoustic guitar with Charlie, one of our professors. Charlie nominated Alexandra for this honour saying that he has witnessed her break free of her initial shyness. He wrote, \'she has upped her game in terms of practicing and has even volunteered herself for inclusion in her school music assembly.\' With this recognition, Alexandra is featured in our NewsSheet as well as in the pupils section of our website. We hope that Alexandra inspires you as she has us!
On April 25th 2010 our very own Operations Director Kimberly Bower will be running the newly named \'Virgin London Marathon 2010\' raising money for the Brain Research Trust. This is the first year the famous 26+ miles marathon will no longer be sponsored by the famous \'Flora\' name. Taking play in town and passing some of the greatest London landmarks, its any budding runner\'s main event of the year! With people dressed as all sorts from bananas to telephone boxes, this is a day not to be missed and is well worth wandering into town for - shedding a tear is only natural as thousands of people line up to take on the challenge of a lifetime. In its history, the London Marathon event has aided the total amount raised by charity runners to a grand total of over £315 million. Cheering the crowds on in person might not be your thing so fear not, you can watch Kim and many others from the comfort of your own sofa as the marathon is boradcast live on TV. We here at the Arts Academy are really proud of Kimberly for taking on this huge challenge and if you would like to find out more information about her run or cause, please email her on kimberly.bower@arts-academy.co.uk
Now... where are my trainers..?! :)
Recent research has advanced our knowledge about how participating in music can create changes in our brains. Participating in music can also improve skills in other areas.
Linking music involvement to speech, eight year olds with musical training outperformed others on language and musical tests. Other studies have demonstrated higher IQs associated with music involvement. Increases in self-esteem, confidence, self-identity, and health are other related benefits.
Isn\'t it great that beyond being fun, music lesson have all of these great outcomes as well?
Check out the attached article, The Power of Music, about Susan Hallam\'s research!
Its that time of year... AGAIN! Yes, the Christmas countdown has started and it seems the entire planet has gone crazy! Christmas trees are EVERYWHERE and the music is playing in the shops... I can\'t even wander around John Lewis anymore without being attacked by perfume-wielding shop assistants attempting to spray me with the latest \'must have\' fragrance!! (Which funnily enough, always smells awful!) Christmas gift flyers and promotions are shoved into every free hand that\'s not carrying purchases and Harrods go to the extreme as usual and their Christmas decs floor has been there since August! Well I\'m pleased to say I haven\'t purchased a single present yet.. horrah! Nor have I written any Christmas cards out... I\'m holding off this year as its suddenly hit me. Where does the time go? It was so simple when we were small... time seemed to fly and the magic of Christmas was always the same. Then when you\'re a grown up its all boring and forward planning! Well... all at Arts Academy wish you huge success in these next few weeks of preparation. If you\'re going away... lucky you! Don\'t forget we can gift wrap too and have plenty of goodies and instruments ready for purchase or hire for that really special Christmas gift! Lots of love... Mel x
Champers was on the cards today when we welcomed a new member to the team. We were delighted when Claire decided upon a career change and agreed to come on board with us delightful lot last year :) Moving from senior staff at BA, leaving a 33 year career in the clouds, (haha... get it? Clouds? Ahem...) Claire Carter is now our full time Enquiries Director. Claire started out in the BA business as a hostess in the glamour days and has seen a BA career flying all over the world and with the well remembered concorde! After being with us for many months, Claire has now made the move permanent! Claire, we hope you\'ll be very happy with us for many more years to come! Mel x

We get around... literally! Last week you may have heard our very own Creative Director, Robert Emery chatting with James Whale on LBC radio for drivetime. Well a few of you were smart enough to call us and have since booked in a consultation session with 10% off your first term of tuition with us! Have a listen to Robert\'s chin wag with the Whale here by visiting www.arts-academy.co.uk/lbc.mp3. TTFN!

Here at the Arts Academy, we\'re not the only ones who think having fun is important! So important in fact, that we wanted to prove that everyone agrees with us!! Thank you to Sheila who sent us this video... there are more in the collection too, including the \'bottomless bin\' and the \'arcade bottlebank\' :) Copy and paste the link below into your browser to see the fun theory... It really works too! :) Mel x
