This February, join Southbank Sinfonia as we head to the depths of the ocean with our submariner, Richard Sisson. Bring your flippers as we explore the deep sea with music by Saint-Saëns, Debussy as well as Disney classics. The fun begins at 10.45am with exciting, themed craft activities and the chance to meet the players of Southbank Sinfonia, followed by the 45-minute concert at 11.30am. Polka theatre is delighted to be bringing Michael Morpurgo's classic novel, Twist of Gold to the stage for the first time in February 2012.It will take you on a journey from an Ireland ravaged by famine to unknown lands in America. With music and mysterious characters, this fast-paced story will travel through many different locations as brother and sister, Sean and Annie, search for their father.Morpurgo's work speaks to all ages; he creates great stories and adventures that ignite the imagination. Join us for a performance of The Soldier’s Tale by Stravinsky, open to families and children aged 8 and up. The story is based on a Russian folk tale about a soldier who makes a deal with the devil, trading his fiddle for a book that predicts the future. The concert will be preceded by a pre-concert talk with animateur Rachel Leach, to help you prepare for the story and the music. Before the concert, you can visit our resources page to find a fun-filled family activity pack to help introduce your children to the music and stories.
