It's not only America that celebrates an Independence day in July.  A lot of other places do as well. But what I found interesting in that 'fun music fact' kind of way, was that 'God Save the King' (alternatively 'God Save the Queen') was first sung today...well the 7th of July back in 1607.  Still used as the national anthem for the UK as well as its territories and dependencies.  Plus, to go a step further with the musical trivia, it's also the melody to the patriotic American hymn, 'America,' which is often known by its first line, 'My Country, Tis of Thee.'  Even in that form, it was a national anthem, until the 1930s rolled around and America adopted 'The Star Spangled Banner' as their national anthem.

Oh, and I wanted to mention the winner of this term's competition...the Rapp Family.  They won  a fantastic prize package that included (among other things) sets of family tickets for two theatre productions: The Lion Who Wanted to Love and Pirates!  If you're wishing you were the lucky winner, make sure you look out for our next competition in the Fall Term NewsSheet!

We're very excited to announce that you can now read our Summer 2010 NewsSheet! We've been working hard to create an amazing NewsSheet, and if you ask me, I think we've done a pretty great job.  There are articles to read about what's happening these days with Arts Academy staff, our pupil of the term, a website feature, and an instrument focus on the first page.  But don't forget to check out the second page!  It's full of events happening around London throughout the summer term. There's even a competition you should definitely enter because the prize package is unbelievable!

Parents and pupils can log on today and find the NewsSheet on the 'downloads' page, and there's also a link to it below. Check it out and tell us what you think! Happy reading...
